The Volkswagen Racing Cup is all set for a thrilling finale next weekend at Snetterton, with reigning champion Philip House preparing himself to retake the championship crown. The championship’s leading diesel driver, Lloyd Allard - currently sixth in the standings - will face a big challenge for diesel-class honours at Snetterton in the shape of Hertfordshire’s Dan Thackeray, who will celebrate his 17th birthday with an outing at the wheel of the Exeter Diesels-backed Golf TDI Mk V usually driven by Rob Palmer. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles MD Peter Wyhinny will be in action in his Caddy TDI, and there will be an old-model Caddy van for Surrey’s Giles Lock.

To some people, modifying the engine could be a difficult option. There are the warranty and the reliability issues. The law in each country could also be an important factor. Since I did the first mod in the engine, I would never believe that my car would reach the stage that it is now. As I’m responsible for a tuning web site, I like to test the mods and show people what could be the pros and cons of each one. The dyno runs also prove if that mod is worth or not. Most of the dyno runs I did were on the same Maha dyno. Every group of mods was divided in stages. That will also show, in my point of view, what could be a correct road map to reach the power numbers similar to what my car has today. Before you make a serious investment in some mod to drastically increase performance beyond stock, check all maintenance items to ensure that your car is in good mechanical condition. There is little point in modifying an engine which is suffering from problems. Using Vag.com can help identifying problems, plus it’s a good tool to help you understand better the TDI engine.

The first engine modification I did was a chip. For some time I was thinking between choosing a box and a chip and I think I did the right choice going to the chip. A chip is a better option than tuning box.
A chip affects more engine controls than a tuning box. A tuning box changes the amount of fuel delivered. A chip changes fuel, boost and timing and some more parameters.
The chip was made by Fernandes Motorsport, a very well known motorsport company with a lot of experience with chiptuning back on 2000. Driving the car that day was an incredible experience. I never thought the feeling would be so different than stock. the throttle response was very impressive. The next mod was a Simota air intake. This intake was designed to fit on a Honda, but with some changes, it was installed on my car. You can read some details about this intake here in this page. Most of the mods I did was tested at F3Sport in a Maha dyno. It is nice to test all the mods in the same dyno, to prove the upgrade. With this setup the power was 135hp and torque 296Nm. Back on these days I did some tests with vag.com and different air filters and MAFs.

about racing tdi

RacingTDI.com is my personal tuning project’s website. I have this car since 1999 and since the first day I had in mind modifying the car to make it really different. I dedicated this site for the VW and TDI enthusiast. This car was feature in some web sites and I always explained every modification in depth as well as the reason to do it. I think it is now the time that my project has his own site. As I learned much form the information that is on the other websites I visited about TDI, I want to give people some more resources to learn about this engine and of course the VW Golf IV.

The car is a VW Golf TDI 110hp Highline. It was not my first Golf but it was my first diesel car. I have been into VWs since I was able to drive, never owned another brand of vehicle, it has always been a VW. Those days, when I bought it, the power of VW TDI engines was impressive, being economic and reliable too. There were no competition on the market. I made a lot of research on the Internet about what were the best mods to improve every component of the car. So if you are a TDI or Golf fan or just curious, bookmark this blog, follow my main web site and came here often because I have not finish my project yet.

My goal was to achieve the 200hp from the 1.9l TDI engine. This goal was already achieved! Remember the original power is 110hp - More than increasing power, the handling and braking power are also very important for me. I take some attention to the exterior design and lately to the interior. A lot of inspiration from the performance mods came from all of the VW Golf TDI racing all over the world.
